Teach Your Children And Help Our Planet For The Future
October 25th, 2011I am sure you remember when saving was a way of life, mainly because times were difficult for everyone and families would only have enough to get by. You may even recall that you were taught as a kid not to waste food and other items. One thing that probably happened in your household as it did mine was that if I didn’t want my dinner, the same food was served to me the next night. The fact that youngsters are not always told to finish their dinner is bad enough, but when the food ends up in the garbage it is even more terrible.
Now in order to get people to conserve there are new concepts, such as green living. Green living has to do with renewable sources of energy and not adding to the pollution of the world. Conserving things and conserving energy are just a couple of things that you can pass on to your youngsters. In fact, if you were to start instructing your youngsters about green living and the effect that they can have on the planet, you will be doing them a big favor. When your children learn to live green as a child, it is usually something that they will end up carrying with them into adulthood.
There are a few steps that can be used to help your children learn the value of living green. Try taking your children on public transportation, like a bus and explain to them that this helps to preserve our planet’s natural resources. You can also teach your children not to waste fruits and vegetables by starting a compost bin and using the leftover peels and cores to make compost. You will see that by showing your kids these things when they are still young, that they may maintain these good habits when they are older. Start a garden, and let your children help, or have their own area. You will see that teaching your children about gardening is not only educational, but another way they can live a green life. Tossing out their toys is something that your youngsters should be taught not to do, as it is better to give them away if they are still in good working order.
Not only will it help those who are less fortunate, but teaches your kids to be givers, and not be self-seeking. Several minor things that are not hard to learn and put into place for economizing electricity are switching off fans and lights when they are not needed. When brushing their teeth they should turn the water off as they are brushing, and make it a habit. You will find that millions of gallons of water may be saved if everyone did this. You may also discover that when your children are young they always want to help you, with that in mind you should allow them to help you with your recycling. You can even make it enjoyable for them by having a competition on tossing cans and plastic bottles into the recycling bin which is set many feet away.
You must do all that you can to make this a fun and exciting learning experience. I am sure you have discovered your kids duplicating what you have done, so you should set a good example. When you teach your kids all about green living when they are young, this will ordinarily be something that they will end up passing it on to their children in years to come.
